1999: The Senate designates March
as National Colorectal Cancer month

At the request of the Foundation, the Senate passed a resolution in November 1999 designating March as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month (NCCAM). In March 2000, we launched the first NCCAM public education campaign with a network of collaborating partner organizations on Capitol Hill. Over the last decade, public awareness of screening for colorectal cancer has grown, and mortality has decreased. Early Detection of Cancer is Critical

The Foundation encourages women to continue breast cancer screening in accordance with guidelines from the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure which recommend screening using mammography and clinical breast examination for all women beginning at age 40.
